Bringing you the best in educational and Catholic programming!
"NEWS AND VIEWS" is a journalistc exploration of contemporary issues and their meaning for their peers as interpreted by Elementary and High School students of the Archdiocese of New York. It is designed to reflect the opinions, research and journalistic abilities of the students on a topic of their choice.
Students organize a news team, choose a topic, research and plan their own TV news program. Employing particular television techniques such as survey, debate, interview, photo essay, feature and editorial, students work both as individual and as a team to create a well-rounded, thought-provoking look at issues of interest to them, from which the viewer will gain a deeper understanding of the topic.
The culmination of the project is the day when the news team comes to the ITV studios to record their "news and views" program, which will then be broadcast on ITV to more than 100 schools throughout the Archdiocese.
"News and Views" programs are recorded in January and February. At the end of each season nominations are announced for the best presentations in these journalistic categories and techniques:
CATEGORIES TECHNIQUES
research survey interview
graphics feature editorial
anchor debate
news team photo essay
Nominees are invited back to ITV for the "Eddy Awards" program in May, where newscasters from New York television stations present the Eddy Award to the students and teams judged to be the best in each category and technique. Special awards are also presented to moderators for their individual time and work in guiding the students through the "News and Views" process.
Faculty moderators interested in participating in "News and Views" may call the producer at 914-968-7800 to obtain necessary information and enroll in the next Moderator Orientation session at ITV.
